  1. PC MACLAN for Windows 95:

  3. PC MACLAN is software that installs on a Windows PC and allows peer-to-peer file 
  4. and print sharing between Windows PCs and Macintosh computers. No additional software is needed on 
  5. the Macintosh because PC MACLAN uses AppleTalk, the protocol that is built into every Macintosh. PC 
  6. MACLAN is made up of four main components:

  8. I. AppleShare File Client:
  9. Windows 95 PCs can access Macintosh shared drives on the network through the  Network Neighborhood 
  10. or Windows Explorer. Entire Macintosh drives or volumes can be mapped to network drives on the 
  11. Windows PC. This feature makes working from a Macintosh drive as simple as working from your local 
  12. hard drive.

  14. II. AppleShare File Server:
  15. Windows 95 PCs that can be accessed by Macintosh computers can share drives, files and file folders. 
  16. Macintosh computers access PC files through the familiar Chooser interface. Users and groups are 
  17. established and assigned Macintosh file sharing privileges. The file server can be used to accept .PS and 
  18. .PRN files that can then be Auto-Spooled to any AppleTalk printer setup with PC MACLAN. This is the 
  19. fastest way to get a print job out of your Mac so you can get back to work.

  21. III. AppleTalk Print Client:
  22. Windows 95 PCs can see and print to any AppleTalk print device on the network through the Network 
  23. Neighborhood or Windows Explorer interface. Printers can be added through the Windows Printer 
  24. Wizard. Windows 95 PCs must have the correct Windows printer driver installed. Most printer drivers are 
  25. usually included with the Windows 95 install disks or CD or are available through the printer 
  26. manufacturer. The Auto-Spool feature allows the user to setup seperate drop folders for each AppleTalk 
  27. printer. These folders can be shared allowing any Mac to save .PS or .PRN files that will be sent directly 
  28. out to the appropriate printer.

  30. IV. AppleTalk Print Server:
  31. Windows 95 PCs can act as a spooler for any available printer for the entire AppleTalk network. The 
  32. Macintosh computer can access the shared printer through the Chooser if the correct Macintosh driver is 
  33. installed. The driver should be available through the printer manufacturer. There is third party software 
  34. that allows Macintosh computers to print to non-PostScript PC printers using a PostScript driver. Using a 
  35. print server will generally release your Mac faster than printing directly to a network printer.

  40. Windows 95 Operating System
  41. Network interface adapter (Ethernet, LocalTalk, TokenRing) 
  42. Supports any network adapter that is NDIS 3.x or ODI compliant.
